THE MARKET GARDEN PLAN

  1. Figure out the space and cultural requirements for each of the components.
  2. Join the components together into an overall plan.
  3. For all perennials, shrubs and trees some research will need to be done.
  • best tasting most disease resistant varieties.

  • space allocated for each plant

Sequence & Timeline:


Week #1
Choose an area to research/design and conduct research.
Design your area in Sketch-up 2D.
Dimension your area in Sketch-up.

Week #2
Use Sketch-up to calculate quantities: Sq footage, plant counts, etc.
Using Sketch-up and Excel, develop a cost estimate for your area.

Week #3
Illustrate your area either in Sketch-up 2D or by hand.
Create 2 sections for your design.
Present your design to the class.

10 Points_____ Research is thorough, and plants are chosen for disease resistance and flavor.
(Print out hard copies of the documents you are using for information. Turn them in with your plan. Summarize the research for the class when you give your presentation.)


10 points _____Based on their cultural needs, plants are given adequate light, space and soil conditions.


10 points_____Plans are drawn neatly and to scale.


10 points_____Plans are dimensioned in accordance with industry standards.


20 points_____Your quantities are accurate


20 points______Your cost estimate is accurate and thorough.


10 points_____You have drawn and illustrated two sections with scale figures.


10 points_____Your presentation is thorough and professional.
